The mystery of flight has always been a challenge to man and we here at Port Augusta are no different to others around the world.

Aero modelers have been active here going back into the 1940′s, with the 1953 and 1956 state control line stunt champion Bernie Shinks, coming from Port Augusta.

A teacher from Port Augusta High School, who involved his students as part of their school science curriculum, started the “Sundowners Model Airplane Club” in the late 1960′s, but when he left it eventually dwindled and the club folded.

“Port Augusta Model Aero Club Inc.” was established in 1974 by a few diehards who had continued with their hobby and continues today.

We have the opportunity today, to be involved with  a wide variety of models because of the improvements in technology, equipment and materials, from free flight, Control Line and Radio Controlled Aircraft, that include scale model, fun fly, ducted fan jet, turbine jet and helicopters.

With the advent of computerized radio control equipment and 3 qualified fixed wing instructors we are able to train budding pilots using the “Buddy System“ which is by joining instructor and student transmitters together with a patch cable, this eliminates the risk of crashes in the learning phase.

This is a hobby for all the family, which can be participated in for fun and relaxation like most of us do, or more seriously in competition.

We can be found out at Yorky’s Crossing Road exit off the Pimba Highway, next clay pan up from the Motocross club and Dirt Circuit Club entrance.

We are out at the field from 9.00am on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays (weather permitting)

We are a friendly bunch, a small club with an out going style so feel free to drop in and have a fly with us.

Our flying site is large, flat and clean even though its a clay pan.

We welcome all enquiries about anything Radio Controlled as our club members have had many years of experience in different types of models.

We have an Indoor venue for micro flight check out Pamac Goes Indoors
